Humanity embarked on what was then considered a mad undertaking: abolishing the night! “Fiat lux!” invites you to relive this fascinating epic, from the flickering glow of candles and oil lamps to the revolutionary brilliance of gas and then electricity. From the first Parisian gas lamps to the challenges of electrifying Lille, dive into the excitement of a century in search of comfort and progress. Discover how these new forms of energy transformed our cities and homes, made streets safer, and reshaped the ways we live, work, and entertain ourselves. Through a wealth of historical objects loaned, among others, by the musée Carnavalet, explore one of the human adventures that propelled our society into modernity.
