The Institut pour la photographie presents Bérangère Fromont’s "République" for its sixth exhibition at Théâtre du Nord, from September 18, 2026, to January 16, 2027.
In République, photographer Bérangère Fromont captures youth and resilience on Place de la République in Paris. She shines a light on a generation navigating history, politics, and everyday life, illustrating the dual nature of a place marked by uprisings and demonstrations, but also by calm and passive resistance. Away from the marches, speeches, and other forms of direct resistance, the artist observes another way of inhabiting the square. Skaters, in particular, embody a different, more diffuse form of resistance. By claiming the urban space and repurposing its features, they give it a new face, slip into its gaps, and invent new uses for it. Bérangère Fromont offers a visual reflection on the many ways of being in the world. She explores the presence of the body in space, light, and the individual’s relationship with their surroundings. Place de la République emerges as a fragmented portrait of a city navigating between rebellion and peace. — The exhibition will open on Friday, September 18, 2026, with an opening night open to the public.
