EUROPEAN DAY OF JEWISH CULTURE AND HERITAGE Organized by IUMAT, in partnership with the Office de Tourisme de Montpellier and JECPJ France. Theme of the 2026 edition: “Love” - SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2026 – INSTITUT MAÏMONIDE – RUE DE LA BARRALERIE - FREE ADMISSION - 2:00 p.m.: Tour of Montpellier’s medieval Mikveh (12th century) - 2:30 p.m.: Tour of the medieval Jewish Quarter, including the 12th/13th-century synagogue building: a 12th-century Hebrew place of worship, designated a "Monument historique" in 2004, followed by a walk through the narrow streets of the medieval Jewish neighborhood (within the feudal domain of the Guilhem), as well as the new window displays: seven historical displays explaining the intellectual influence of the city’s Jewish population during the Middle Ages. - 3:00 p.m.: Lecture: “The Long Love Story Between the Jews, Montpellier and Occitanie” by Michaël Iancu, PhD in history and director of the Institut. - THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 2026 – ARCHIVES MUNICIPALES, MEDIATHEQUE EMILE ZOLA - FREE ADMISSION - 4:30 p.m.: Presentation of Montpellier’s medieval Mahzor (a collection of Hebrew liturgical texts), dating from the late 14th/early 15th century, by Christine Feuillas, director of the Archives municipales, and Michaël Iancu, director of the Institut.
