As part of the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, we know the promise of the orchestra Les Siècles: to perform the works it takes on using historical instruments, and thus recover their freshness and original colors. This concert will offer a chance to rediscover, as if hearing them for the first time, two great works created at opposite ends of the 19th century: Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, premiered in 1896, and Beethoven’s “Pastoral” Symphony, which first appeared in 1808. We will be all the more sensitive to the rich tone of the instruments because Christian-Pierre La Marca also plays a singular instrument, strangely anonymous, made between 1790 and 1830. Anonymous, but with a unique sound, as it belongs to no school. A chance to remember that even the best-known repertoire is always ready to be begun anew.
