As part of the Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, Satie in Big Band form? The idea might come as a surprise, since the Honfleur native’s name remains closely associated with his celebrated pieces for solo piano. But after all, hadn’t Debussy himself already revealed their shimmering colors by orchestrating the Gymnopédies? By bringing a jazz quartet into dialogue with fifteen brass and woodwind sections, Johane Myran offers us his own loving and offbeat reinterpretation of a work unlike any other, through a selection of choice pieces: two Gymnopédies and a Gnossienne, of course, but also excerpts from Sports et Divertissements, the song Je te veux, and the famous Vexations, with its motif repeated to the point of obsession. Performed by an ensemble of exceptional soloists, Satie’s world is revealed in a new light, while remaining true to its blend of quirky humor and bittersweet melancholy. Reservation required
