As part of Festival Radio France Occitanie Montpellier, Kenny Garrett, a former collaborator of Art Blakey and especially Miles Davis, is undoubtedly one of those figures who bridge the contemporary scene and the great jazz tradition. For these “sounds from the ancestors,” he has drawn from an even broader heritage, touching on the very definition of his musical identity: the mysticism inherited from John Coltrane, but also memories of church songs from his childhood, the soul music he listened to in his youth, and his experience alongside Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés. Leading a group of young musicians with infectious energy, the saxophonist offers us his vibrant and ecumenical vision of a multifaceted African American heritage, celebrated in all its diversity.
