In 2026, Café & Vidéo du CNRS celebrates its 30th anniversary! Detailed 2026 program Café & Vidéo du CNRS invites you to discover films produced or co-produced by CNRS Images. One Thursday a month, attend a screening of a scientific film followed by a discussion with local researchers. On Thursday, June 11 at 1:30 p.m., come watch, in the CNRS Occitanie Est amphitheater, the film "Mission Tonga: In Search of the Underwater Volcanoes of the Pacific" by Hubert Bataille (27 min., 2020). Exceptionally, there will be no scientific discussion following this screening. Mission Tonga takes you aboard the Atalante, a French oceanographic vessel, in search of shallow underwater volcanoes to understand and anticipate the consequences of fluid emissions on marine life and the climate. The expedition, led by two researchers, Sophie Bonnet (oceanographer, IRD) and Cécile Guieu (oceanographer, CNRS), analyzes and studies the consequences of trace elements supplied by shallow hydrothermal sources in order to determine their potential impact on marine productivity and the biological carbon pump. Take part in the June 11 screening at 1:30 p.m.: Register now! Free and open to everyone!
Event from the official Montpellier calendar; venue: CNRS Occitanie Est; address: 1919 Route de Mende, 34090, Montpellier.
