Jean-Marie BESSET takes on the role of the fallen dandy. November 1899. Banished from England after his release from prison, exiled in Paris, penniless and abandoned, the brilliant writer Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) decides to give one final talk, hoping the proceeds will earn him a few pennies. Once the master of paradox, the philosopher of beauty and the author of sparkling comedies, he recaptures some of his former glory as he shares his thoughts on lying, art and pleasure. His tone then grows more serious as he reflects on the circumstances of his downfall and his trial for gross indecency. A confession of sorts—not to justify himself, but as an act of defiance, a plea to regain respect and dignity. Duration: 1 hour - Ages 14 and up
