For Nantes seniors aged 60 and over. It is possible to play sports at any age, and many sports activities can be adapted for seniors, with a wide range of offerings in the Nantes area. However, this is still not well known among seniors and their families. To raise awareness and introduce these practices, the City of Nantes is organizing a new edition of the Senior Olympics on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at the Pierre-Quinon stadium in Nantes, in partnership with municipal establishments, alongside its associative partners and local sports actors. For one day, around a hundred seniors will compete in a friendly and supportive atmosphere, practicing boccia, volleyball, walking football, and weightlifting. These matches are adapted in terms of equipment, pace, duration, and configuration, with events lasting about fifteen minutes. Participation is free, all levels are welcome, and it is not necessary to already practice a sport. The teams will bring together participants aged 60 to 100, whether athletic or not, from all physical conditions, with various levels and degrees of autonomy. In total, 16 teams will be formed, and 2 training sessions of 1.5 hours will be offered in the spring, supervised by sports educators to introduce the 4 sports events that will be practiced and allow the teams to get to know each other. A forum of associations and sports clubs offering activities in Nantes for seniors, including demonstrations, will take place at the stadium after the Olympics. Participation is optional and open to anyone interested.
