Occupation, war, exile: they are also matters of language—languages to endure, defend, and learn. Drawing on her own experience, with humor, love, and anger, Palestinian artist Marah Haj Hussein unpacks the geopolitics of multilingualism in a solo performance where dance and theater engage in dialogue. Born in Kofor Yassif, in occupied Palestine, Marah Haj Hussein now lives in Anvers. She speaks Palestinian Arabic, Hebrew, Dutch, and English. Through dance, theater, and visual and audio archives, she draws in turn on her own story and that of her family to reveal the hidden power dynamics of multilingualism. Beyond mix-ups and misunderstandings, how do your languages coexist when you speak several of them? And can your mother tongue survive the oppression of an official language imposed by the colonizer? Marah Haj won the Roel Verniers prize for this debut show at het TheaterFestival in 2023. As part of the Les Cosmopolites festival
