As part of the Bicentenary of Photography, the CCC wanted to celebrate the art of repurposing and photographic material by giving Catalan photographer Israel Ariño carte blanche. In his works, Israel stages images that engage with reality in order to better subvert it. This photographer and publisher explores the different narratives of photographic images, inviting us to see photography as the art of illusion. His practice thus returns to the roots of photography and the work of Hippolyte Bayard, when reality cloaked itself in fiction to reveal itself more fully, and when images could still be viewed with suspicion as they asserted—contrary to any scientific definition—the imaginary worlds opened up by creation.
