À propos

On the tenth anniversary of this tragedy, the Ville de Nice wanted to offer a time for remembrance, transmission, and reflection. Designed with respect for the victims and their families, this exhibition invites visitors to understand how a human community faces hardship, how it comes together, rebuilds, and passes on its story. On July 14, 2016, as thousands of people had gathered on the Promenade des Anglais to celebrate the Fête nationale, Nice was struck by one of the deadliest attacks in contemporary French history. Eighty-six people lost their lives and several hundred others were injured. Through archives, photographs, objects of remembrance, testimonies, symbolic works, and previously unseen documents, the exhibition route traces the many dimensions of this collective memory: the tribute to the victims, the surge of solidarity that emerged in the very first hours, the commitment of emergency services and institutions, the role of associations, artistic, civic, and spiritual responses, as well as the gradual construction of a shared memory at local, national, and international levels. Because remembering is a collective responsibility, “Nice, ten years of memory and resilience” affirms with restraint and dignity that beyond the tragedy, transmission remains one of the most essential forms of resilience. Exhibition route The exhibition is held in the historic salons on the ground floor of the Villa Masséna. Each space addresses a particular dimension of the memory of July 14, 2016. Visitors discover, in sequence: - the Mémorial des Nations; - the spontaneous tributes on the Promenade des Anglais; - interfaith dialogue; - civic and artistic expressions of resilience; - sporting tributes; - press archives; - institutional and international reactions; - the judicial response; - press cartoons; - commemorative ceremonies; - the commitment of associations; - an audiovisual projection space. The documentary “10 ans” The route ends with the screening of the documentary “10 ans,” directed by Franck Fernandes. The film gives a voice to four young adults who were children at the time of the attack on July 14, 2016: Maeva, Lucie, Violette, and Théo. They recount the different stages of their recovery. Through their testimonies, the documentary reminds us that there is no single way to rebuild after trauma. This audiovisual conclusion opens up a reflection on living memory, the kind that continues to be written through individual journeys.
