Les Bancs du Carreau is a festive and artistic event for children and adults, with shows, concerts, and plenty of other surprises!
Festival of amateur practices Two weeks to lift the curtain on creations born from the work of Le Carreau’s partner associations and partner schools! More than a hundred amateur performers have the chance to present their shows in professional conditions. Because artistic sensitivity does not fall from the sky, because it is not necessarily rooted in families either, and because Le Carreau du Temple is convinced that cultivating it is essential to awakening citizenship, it sees developing projects from the earliest age, supported by the skills it hosts, as part of its public service mission. That is why, throughout the year, the associations working closely with Le Carreau du Temple, leading a range of artistic practices, invite children and adults to perform, sing, and dance as part of the creation of a show, before presenting it at the end of the season in a performance hall and before an audience. From January to June 2026, within the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry department of Hôpital de la Pitié Salpêtrière and at the invitation of Dr Joana Matos, choreographers Gaëtan Brun-Picard and Fernando Cabral, accompanied by a team of hospital caregivers, developed a practice between artistic workshop and collective performance with a group of young volunteers. During these shared moments, dance, like all the other forms of artistic action deployed on stage, is conceived as a relational experience, an act of emancipation, joy, and pleasure, but also as a way of standing together here in this moment. This performance is designed as an expanded workshop and evolves within a framework of defined actions, co-performed and reinterpreted live by the teenagers, caregivers, and choreographers. This year, we have formed a group of young people from different Protection Judiciaire de la Jeunesse de Paris services who, for the duration of the workshops, become a lively, committed, and creative theater collective. We took the gamble, thanks to the talents of Océan Michel and Flore Vialet, the two directors who have supported us for two years, of inventing a story from improvisations and writing on stage. L’affrontement is a story of violence, love, and loyalty. Universal questions that have always run through art in all its forms. These themes take shape in this show through the realities and imaginations of the teenagers. It is the turn of young people, too often made invisible and stigmatized, to take the stage and tell their lived experience through the very act of sublimation. The question of fiction is at the heart of this 2026 edition; this year, even more than in previous years, it is about performing, searching for characters, holding dramatic situations, and carrying a story together all the way to the end. This project is collective, social, and artistic. It is thanks to the support of the various educators from the Paris services, the perspective and artistic technique of the directors, and the boldness of the young people that this show can exist this year.
