Workshop for movers of all backgrounds
How can we become aware of what we are doing when we dance, or when we move more broadly? How can we take ownership of our own gestures? We can make movements without always having access to how we perform them: the knowledge is then held within the gesture itself, but it remains opaque to us. Our movements carry implicit knowledge, ways of doing and sensing that are not always clearly apparent to us. This workshop invites you to slow down, to pay attention to what is at play within the experience of movement itself, and to make explicit the often silent dimensions of that experience. The aim will be to put into words what the body already knows, not to confine the experience within pre-existing frameworks, but to make it more accessible to oneself. Naming your gesture means giving it form in another way, allowing it to exist with greater clarity and depth. The workshop is based on the approach developed by Pierre Vermersch ( www.expliciter.org ): an approach that encourages lived experience to emerge and be put into words from the concrete experience of movement. We will explore simple tools to support this process, for yourself as well as for others, in a spirit of listening, curiosity, and sharing. By taking the time to put dance experiences — or movement experiences more broadly — into words, this workshop makes it possible to recognize and grasp the value of your own knowledge. Naming what you do in your own words becomes a gesture of emancipation, a tool for fully taking ownership of your practice. It allows you to act with clarity and intention, and to build your practice with autonomy, creativity, and confidence. This workshop is open to anyone who moves — whether they come from dance, martial arts, sport, somatic or therapeutic practices, or are simply looking for another way to inhabit their body. The workshops are designed as an ongoing series, but can also be attended individually.
