Guided by illustrator Magali Attiogbé, children will make a sapeur jacket.
As part of the Ville de Paris libraries' special program "Sous toutes les coutures" and in connection with its collections dedicated to Africa, the Naguib Mahfouz library invites illustrator Magali Attiogbé to lead a colorful sewing workshop. Starting with unbleached cotton jackets, children will be able to sew, cut, glue, and embroider decorative and/or functional elements. Wax fabric, sequins, braids, fringes, patches...anything goes to create beautiful vests like great fashion designers! This workshop was created and developed based on the Beauté Congo exhibition held at La Fondation Cartier in 2015. Please note: the workshop will take place outdoors, Place Alphonse Allais, as part of the Fête de quartier du Bas-Belleville. Registration will take place on the day itself, subject to available places. Born in Togo in the 1980s, Maggali Attiogbé arrived in France at the age of 3. She studied applied arts in Lyon and Paris. A graduate of the Ecole Estienne in illustration, she works across a wide range of formats, including posters, books, press, postcards, tableware, toys, trucks ... In children's publishing, she has notably authored L'Imagier d'Afrique (Amaterra), and illustrated L'Afro-carnaval des animaux (Le Label dans la forêt).
