More than a utilitarian object, clothing can tell stories about the world and question it.
This lecture explores the connections between clothing and art through a central idea: clothing is a form that thinks. Far more than a utilitarian or decorative object, it emerges as a true artistic medium, capable of questioning the body, memory, identity, politics, and social relationships. Drawing on examples from her book Le Fil dans l’art contemporain (éditions Pyramyd), Charlotte Vannier will approach clothing as sculpture, political message, living memory, and performance space. This exploration will show how textile, far from being anecdotal, is a sensitive, critical, and symbolic language. An invitation to look differently at what we wear: not as a simple everyday use, but as a form of expression capable of telling the story of the world.
