4 brilliant musicians, an inspired double bassist: Jean Bardy returns with Au Café des Anges, ten years after his duo with Hungarian pianist Emil Spanyi on Very Blue. This time, he takes us into a quartet… and a quintet on two tracks, with the magical touch of accordionist Marc Berthoumieux. Jean Bardy weaves a world where jazz naturally converses with his first rock-folk loves, all shot through with beautiful bluesy hues. On the program: energy, swing, but also plenty of subtlety. You hear superb double bass introductions, warm tones that envelop you, a hint of melancholy that surfaces at times… and above all the simple, infectious pleasure of playing together, audible in every note.
