For Pride Month, we invite you to a talk with Antoine Idier, author, and Pochep, illustrator of the comic book "Résistances Queer - Une histoire des cultures LGBTQI+", to discuss the history of the repression and struggle of homosexuals in France.
This history traces the “birth” of homosexuality at the end of the 19th century, followed by the development of specific behaviors and identities, names, places, and codes. Literature, song, and culture emerge as spaces for identification and representation. We discover the repression, deportation, and “decriminalization” that homosexuality underwent in France, as well as the emergence of diverse and sometimes conflicting political movements. Multiple LGBTQI+ identities (lesbians, gays, bi people, trans people, queers, intersex people, etc.) take shape before our eyes. Through these stories, Antoine Idier and Pochep show that sexual minorities, resisting heteronormative domination, have spent nearly two centuries constantly reinventing cultural codes, solidarities, and forms of sociability, while forging representations and tools for struggle. Antoine Idier is a sociologist, senior lecturer at Sciences Po Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and a specialist in the condition of homosexual people in France. He is the author of Réprimer et réparer : une histoire effacée de l'homosexualité, Textuel, 2025. Pochep is a French comics artist, author of many comics, including the 10th volume of Histoire dessinée de la France. He contributes to various magazines, including Fluide Glacial.
