An introduction to traditional Japanese embroidery
For little hands ages 7 and up, a workshop led by embroiderer Adeline Rofort. A fan of joyful, creative embroidery that is accessible to everyone, Adeline works in Hauts-de-France. She designs and leads custom workshops and is committed to sharing the pleasure of handcraft, encouraging creativity through play, and bringing people together through embroidery. For this workshop, each child will choose an animal to embroider (templates provided) and will learn how to make it appear little by little using sashiko stitches, a Japanese embroidery technique with simple, graphic patterns. The sashiko stitch has historically been used to repair and reinforce clothing in an aesthetic way, and at the end of the workshop, children will be able to attach their animal to a garment they have brought with them. For children ages 7 to 10. Registration required with the librarians starting May 12, 2026.
