A playful and in-depth presentation on the history of science-fiction cinema, by Margot Dugué and Bastien Champougny.
“I’ve seen things you wouldn’t believe…” Roy Batty declared at the end of Blade Runner. “Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion (…), C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.” We too, over eight years of talks, have seen things. Bones spinning through the sky and turning into a space station, men traveling back in time to prevent the apocalypse, alien spacecraft dangling from strings… We have seen hundreds of futures and at least as many different pasts. And this year, we decided not to let “all those moments be lost in time”! Through this message written in the past, we invite you to join us in the future to unpack the history of science fiction in cinema with us! How did it begin? What is it made of? How has it evolved? And above all, why is it so important in our society? From the greatest masterpieces to the darkest B-movie disasters, we will travel across eras and countries to (re)discover together the history and evolution of this fundamental film genre. Clips, analysis, and giant plastic aliens guaranteed! - Free admission, on the second floor of the médiathèque
