Flamenco tablao with the dancer from Grenade Eva Manzano, accompanied on vocals by Alberto Funes and on guitar by Cristobal Corbel.
Eva Manzano is a volcanic, delicate, powerful, sensual, and generous dancer. It is a true honor for us to offer you this evening in her fiery company. She will be accompanied by two of her talented and cherished partners: the cantaor Alberto Funes and the guitarist Cristobal Corbel. Born in Grenade, Eva Manzano moved to Séville at the age of fifteen, where she began her professional training under the direction of Matilde Coral in Triana; for several years, she received a scholarship from the prestigious Fondation Cristina Heeren for flamenco art. She studied with masters of the stature of Angelita Vargas, Carmen Ledesma, Milagros Mengíbar, and Manolo Soler. She has also worked in renowned tablaos in Séville, Grenade, and Madrid. In 2006, she received the Joven Arte y Creatividad award from the Baza city council. Her work as a teacher has taken her around the world: Ukraine, France, Italie, Allemagne, Cuba, and even Le Moyne College and Syracuse University in New York, and she has collaborated with the Embassy of Spain and the Institut Cervantes. Her traditional dance is rooted in the idea of mixed, prejudice-free music. She works with artists trained in classical or Andalusian traditions, with rockers, and with lyrical choirs. Her palmas and zapateados have been heard on Hola Tierra, the latest solo studio album by Lagartija Nick frontman Antonio Arias, and at the Centro de Creación Contemporánea Matadero in Madrid with folk singer-songwriter Lorena Álvarez. Among her most personal projects are Visiones Íntimas, for piano and dance, in which she dances pieces from French Impressionism with pianist Juan Gallego-Coín, and Los Monstruos de Picasso, her debut work created at the Madrid festival, a short piece for unconventional dance spaces with sequenced music, in which she pays tribute to the painter's work.
