The American band Meatbodies brings its garage psych rock back to Paris for a show at Point Éphémère!

After years of increasingly wild shows in front of fired-up crowds, with a constantly shifting lineup, exhaustion finally caught up with him and Ubovich realized that another change was on the horizon. He withdrew into the depths of Los Angeles, searching for meaning and a fresh start. Ubovich surrendered to that world, neglected his own well-being, and tried to forget his successes. That was when Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom began to take shape. After quitting drinking, Ubovich started writing at home and in various studios with his longtime collaborator Dylan Fujioka. Official production on Flora finally began in 2019, but the story remained unfinished. Disagreements with the studio created tension, and the project was put on hold. The half-finished album seemed abandoned. After tensions eased and after many conversations about the future of the record, Ubovich was finally given the green light to finish production in 2020 - but a new obstacle appeared: the pandemic. And as the world came to a halt, the idea of Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom was also set aside. Refusing to sit still at home, Ubovich dove back into his old demos with Fujioka while continuing to write for Flora. That work gave rise to 333, which became Meatbodies' third official album. Still, Flora never truly left his mind, and Ubovich returned once again to the idea of finishing this almost mythical record. When restrictions began to lift, he went to Gold Diggers Sound studio, joined by engineer Ed McEntee and a team of friends and collaborators. Ubovich then completed the album's final act - but another ordeal awaited him. His home, where he had lived for eight years, was declared uninhabitable. He ended up in the hospital, where he spent the next month. Forced not only to relearn how to walk, but also how to play music, Ubovich found motivation in an upcoming tour with his band FUZZ. For a year, he traveled the road in search of some form of normality. When he returned from tour, he felt centered again and full of energy, ready to face his white whale: this almost-lost album. The mission finally came to fruition. And so here we are with Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom, an album completed through sheer willpower and unwavering determination, released on In the Red Records. The record recalls the burning energy blending Blue Cheer and Iggy Pop with the psychedelic touch that defined the band's earlier releases, while adding new elements: shoegaze, classic alternative rock, Britpop, drone, and even hints of country. The band explores new directions without ever sounding forced. Both a tribute to 1980s Los Angeles punk and to the rise of indie/alternative music in the United Kingdom, Flora Ocean Tiger Bloom feels like a radio station broadcasting from the cosmic void, with a playlist made up of early Pink Floyd, Ramones, Roky Erickson, The Kinks, and Spacemen 3.
