As part of Marc Bloch’s induction into the Panthéon

On June 23, the historian Marc Bloch, born in Lyon in 1886, will be inducted into the Panthéon, the funerary monument that, since the French Revolution, has housed and honored the memory of major figures in history. This film retraces the life of a man who cherished the Republic, a life of struggle marked by his active participation in both world wars, and a brilliant intellectual journey that revolutionized the discipline of history. Pursued by Vichy and the occupying forces as a Jew, Marc Bloch joined the Resistance alongside the “Francs‑tireurs.” Arrested and tortured by Klaus Barbie’s Lyon Gestapo, he was murdered on June 16, 1944.
