In 1918, a Jewish barber from Tomania saves Colonel Schultz and then develops amnesia. After years in the hospital, he returns to his shop in the ghetto, unaware that his lookalike, the dictator Hynkel, is pursuing an antisemitic policy. During a raid, he is arrested with Schultz, but the two escape by disguising themselves as soldiers. Mistaken for Hynkel, the barber is forced to address the crowd and delivers a powerful appeal for unity and humanism. Book
