The 18th arrondissement has preserved its working-class roots, enriched by a mosaic of cultures for more than a century. As a place of refuge, it welcomed Jewish immigrants from across Europe. Many walked its streets from childhood and never forgot them. This walk retraces the paths of three figures from the neighborhood: Joseph Joffo, a hidden child and unforgettable author of Un sac de billes; Dora Bruder, the heroine of Patrick Modiano’s book, deported and never returned; and Annette Landauer, a survivor arrested during the Vel d’Hiv roundup.
From the school on rue Ferdinand Flocon to the synagogue on rue Saint-Isaure, via the jardin Léon Serpolet and boulevard Ornano, this walk invites you to discover the little-known history of Jews in northern Paris.
