À propos

Sound installation composed of glass and ceramic pieces

The musical installation Fluid Synth is a sound installation composed of glass and ceramic pieces through which air and water are used to produce and diffuse sound. Somewhere between an archaeological fragment and a sound laboratory, the work brings together science and craft, exploring the various uses of terracotta as well as laboratory tools as cooling technologies. Much like the filters and compressors of a modular synthesizer, sound here is treated as a physical vibratory phenomenon that travels at varying speeds through different materials, whether solid, liquid, or gaseous. The aim is to listen to what resists matter, what is lost within it, what resonates, and to experiment with its limits and breaking points as a method of musical writing and composition. Alan Affichard is a multidisciplinary artist whose work revolves around installation and performance. Drawing on traditional techniques and scientific experimentation, he develops sound devices and experimental instruments designed to forge new methods of composition and, consequently, new modes of listening.
