In three large transparent Plexiglas tanks, algae turn in random rhythms
Nage Libre is a kinetic and immersive installation made up of three large glowing cylinders filled with water, in which strips of VHS tape are set in motion. These forms unfold autonomously in the liquid, like underwater creatures in incubation. The installation was born from a collaboration between Tanguy Clerc and Tristan Dubus. After earning a master's degree in sound design at the Beaux Arts du Mans in 2016, Tanguy Clerc has spent several years exploring the history of our technological tools and their obsolescence. His sculptures and installations free objects from their productivist role to offer a more liberated and contemplative version of them. Tristan Dubus, a builder of sets and machines of all kinds, directs his work toward a blend of the mechanical and the living. After studies in construction and sound engineering (ITEMM), he joined the company Le Fer À Coudre in 2011. In 2025, together with other artists, they founded the collective Science Friction, combining scenography, sculptures, and light installations.
