Halfway between a collective quest, a documentary and a demonstration, a man tells us about the struggles that shaped the history of 20th-century gay culture and that are part of queer culture today.
2 hr 15 min • ages 12 and up • free admission In the middle of public space, a man takes us through time to bring back to life the pioneers of the social uprisings that built the movement, through a walk that resembles a Pride march. Retracing these struggles is a way to reclaim them, to know where they come from in order to better understand where we are. The aim is to identify and make visible the different minorities present in these struggles for freedom, and to try to imagine together how these fights can converge. And since struggles are born mainly in the street, this is where the performance must take place. SEE THE PROGRAM THE COLLECTIVE The collective Jeanine Machine was born out of urgency. The urgency to create performances in public space that engage with current issues. The urgency to take risks by bringing sensitive subjects into the street. The urgency to write shows that blend the intimate and the political. The desire to throw stones into the pond of the street, letting moments of reflection and poetry emerge from the urban tumult. The desire for engaged writing rooted in reality. Jeanine Machine wants to write incisive, disorienting and hard-hitting performances, because we think that is what the world needs. Jeanine Machine’s first creation is called Le Pédé. ; Credits: © Rachel Paty ; Credits: art: Philippe Deutsch. Illustration: La fleur a des yeux - Nina Martin-Terzulli
