Motherly Voices — Three evenings, three voices. A journey through three major figures in vocal jazz, each essential in her own way, yet often told from the margins.
We begin with Lorez Alexandria, a contemporary of Sarah Vaughan whose legacy has remained more understated. Endowed with rare warmth and individuality, she is a major source of inspiration for Estelle Perrault. Then Carmen McRae, a voice of clarity, precise phrasing, and restrained irony, with a unique way of saying things directly. Finally, a look toward the 1980s with Marlena Shaw. Estelle will present her repertoire, that of a great singer with playful, sensual, and liberated energy. More than a concert, each evening offers an immersion designed to bring these voices to life, share their stories, and grasp what they changed in jazz and what they continue to pass on.
