À propos

Notsani and Régent explore the connections between contemporary art and memory at the Mémorial de la Shoah.

Painting, Drawing, Performance, Reading, Exhibition The works proposed by artists Emmanuel Régent and Tami Notsani explore the many connections contemporary art can establish with memory and archives, as well as with the symbolism of objects, whether historical or parabolic. Le Dernier Soleil Emmanuel Régent’s project, specially conceived and designed for the Mémorial de la Shoah, presents new works that bring together the artist’s conceptual, poetic, and parabolic practice and aesthetic with elements specific to the memory of the Shoah, as well as to other genocides studied by the Mémorial de la Shoah. The exhibition examines the symbolic depth of objects, as well as the relationship between the ephemeral and the eternal, the wounds of History and hope, always in a way that is more evocative than direct, leaving room for multiple interpretations. At the heart of a constellation of works, ten watercolors created by the artist specially “from life” in Rivesaltes, Drancy, and Auschwitz open onto the eternity of a sunset. La Veille The project developed by Tami Notsani lies at the crossroads of her current artistic practice, the idea of commemorating in an original and contemporary way the 50th anniversary of the Mémorial de la Shoah as an archive site from the outset, and reminding the public of the importance of archives, their collection, analysis, and the preservation of memory. On the forecourt of the Mémorial, it will take the form of a performance in which audience participation will be requested throughout the evening. In a set design recalling a reception desk, Tami Notsani and her assistants will welcome visitors at a desk, inviting them to choose from archival images and describe, in their own words and with cultural and symbolic interpretations as varied as the gazes that fall upon them, in one minute, the image before their eyes (a description that will be recorded and later become the basis for an installation-restitution). Meet at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium du Mémorial de la Shoah for the launch of the evening, in the presence of the artists and the curator Curated by: Marie DEPARIS-YAFIL
