More than 80 works take over around fifteen rooms of the museum: hybrid bodies, captive creatures, bestiaries of love… "
The exhibition Une hirondelle ne fait pas le printemps, from April 14 to September 20, 2026. Curated by Colin Lemoine, the exhibition brings together more than 80 works presented across around fifteen rooms, following a themed route (“transports of love,” “capture and captivity,” “blood of beasts,” “domesticated savagery”…). Major installations, emblematic works, and previously unseen pieces enter into dialogue with the museum’s collections, turning the animal world into a mirror of human passions and impulses. This exhibition offers a way to approach Annette Messager’s work through the lens of animality, which had never before been explored in such depth, despite its constant and recurring presence in the artist’s work. Themes: • Hybridization and metamorphosis, works combining human and animal anatomies • (e.g.: Escargot-seins, Jambes-oiseau). • Captivity and predation, staging domination and vulnerability (e.g.: La Parade de l’écureuil, Trois cagettes). • Bodies and intimacy, works addressing sensuality and emotional relationships (e.g.: Mes transports, Le Bestiaire amoureux). • Language and symbolism, a reflection on popular expressions and proverbs (e.g.: Vingt-deux expressions, Le Miroir aux alouettes). • Memory and collection, presentation of album-collections and personal objects belonging to the artist (e.g.: Les Qualificatifs donnés aux femmes, Ma vitrine de pigeons). Curator: Coline Lemoine
