Playtest of a narrative video game with a live improvised soundtrack.

Painting, Installation, Music, Video Game. Eaux Douces is an ongoing project by the duo Xenoangel, founded by Marija Avramović and Sam Twidale. It explores themes of care and temporality through the lens of hydrofeminism and water. The project is based on a series of paintings and digital works, presented as part of the exhibition at the Centre culturel de Serbie for Nuit Blanche. The latest extension of the Eaux Douces universe is a video game prototype created by the duo, accompanied by a soundtrack by Léo Crestel. Titled "Tidelings", it is a narrative adventure game with a watercolor aesthetic, in which the player embodies the ocean and helps a strange creature find its way. Developed in a custom game engine named "Angel", the game is made entirely from hand-painted visuals. This point-and-click narrative experience emphasizes empathy and connection with the living and non-living world around us. By embodying the ocean and following the "Tideling", the player and visitors are invited to explore a playful aquatic universe populated by stories, monsters, waste, and emotions. For Nuit Blanche, the creators of the original soundtrack, Sam Twidale and Léo Crestel, will offer a live musical improvisation during the first public playtest session of the game. Visitors are invited to play, watch, listen to the performance, and discover the hand-drawn elements used to create this artistic game.
