À propos

Visit the exhibition “Noa Eshkol. 1924-2007. Dance and Compositions” at the mahJ, with free admission.

Self-guided visit of the exhibition The mahJ is dedicating the first French exhibition to Noa Eshkol (1924-2007), a pioneer of modern dance in Israël and a remarkable textile artist, creator of stunning wall carpets. This retrospective traces her journey from the 1950s to the 2000s through her new movement notation, drawings, photographs, videos, and her large-scale Wall Carpets, made from recycled fabrics beginning in 1973. It highlights a major interdisciplinary artist, shaped by the collective spirit of the kibbutz and influenced by the history of Israël. Two contemporary artists illustrate the current resonance of her work. Movement and matter workshop: express yourself! At the heart of the exhibition, visitors are invited to discover Noa Eshkol’s artistic practices through two spaces combining movement and matter. The visit begins by observing her choreographic work, centered on the body, space, and time. The gestures are paced by the metronome, with no set or costumes. Visitors can reproduce these gestures in front of a screen. The route continues with a space dedicated to textiles, featuring fabric samples to touch, and a participatory installation that allows visitors to collectively reconstruct the work Peacock, representing a peacock spreading its tail. Workshops by the Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group in partnership with the Ménagerie de verre, as part of Nuit blanche 2026 The Noa Eshkol Chamber Dance Group, re-formed in 2012, continues to pass on the legacy of its founder. In collaboration with the Ménagerie de verre, it offers a workshop for professional audiences as well as a performance (reservation required). See the program on the mahJ or Ménagerie de verre website.
