À propos

At the far end of the Bois de Vincennes lies a garden that echoes a distant world: the "René Dumont" Tropical Agronomy Garden. Coffee, cocoa and vanilla plants were once acclimatized here, before the site hosted a colonial exhibition and later a hospital for soldiers from overseas. Today, restored pavilions, monuments and clearings invite contemplation. Let yourself be guided through this landscape steeped in history and memory, where nature is slowly reclaiming its place.

Discover an unusual site in the Bois de Vincennes on a guided tour: the Tropical Agronomy Garden. Little known yet fascinating, it lies at the eastern edge of the Bois de Vincennes. Established in 1899 as a colonial experimental garden, it was designed to test and acclimatize exotic plants intended for the French colonies: coffee, cocoa and vanilla plants, banana trees… all species once grown in greenhouses before being sent throughout the empire. Join a two-hour walk through the Jardin d’agronomie tropicale René Dumont and delve into the history of a place that has successively hosted agronomic experiments, a colonial exhibition, a military hospital and memorials. You will discover the restored pavilions, traces of the former greenhouses, shaded paths and memorial spaces that make this garden both peaceful and steeped in history. Please note: in the event of a thunderstorm or strong winds, the tour may be canceled for safety reasons.

Price: The tour begins at 3 p.m. Meet in front of the Indochinese Gate.
