Get ready to taste medieval appetizers during workshops led by specialists in culinary arts from the Middle Ages!

The flavors of the Palais take on a medieval twist for this pre-dinner event. Four must-see stops throughout the Conciergerie for anyone curious about or passionate about Middle Ages cuisine: spices, dishes, cheeses, and the art of the banquet are on the menu for this festive, tasting-filled start to the evening! ; Credits: Ilona Thoumazet - CMN On the program A circuit of 4 workshops/stalls, spread throughout the Conciergerie - Spices and drinks In the Salle des Gardes, Brunehaut, the spice merchant, has set up her stall, instantly filling the space with a thousand aromas from faraway lands. Through her warm, fragrant stand, she invites visitors to discover the history of spices, their value, their uses, as well as the sweetened and spiced drinks that reflect the medieval taste for luxury, refinement, and travel. - Dishes In the kitchens, Jacquemart takes on the challenge of following in the footsteps of the famous cook Taillevent. He presents bold, richly spiced cuisine worthy of the finest noble tables of the late Middle Ages. The dishes are offered for tasting, and the public is invited to sample these preparations and share their opinions. - Cheeses In the Salle des Gens d’Armes, a cheesemonger introduces the public to a selection of cheeses based on the writings of the Italian physician Pantaleone de Confienza. Through her explanations, she traces the origin, history, and production methods of these products before offering them for tasting, allowing visitors to appreciate all their richness and diversity. - The banquet Also in the Salle des gens d'armes, you will learn about the medieval banquet. How did a banquet unfold in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance? How was the table set? What were a dressoir or an écuyer tranchant? This interactive performance answers all these questions by inviting the audience to play no fewer than ten different roles. The staging helps explain the social and political stakes connected to the table while following the course of a real banquet step by step, and dispelling several misconceptions about medieval eating practices.
