From May 13 to August 2, 2026, the Musée national de la Marine presents the exhibition “La Marine et les peintres. Quatre siècles d’art et de pouvoir”. To mark the Navy’s 400th anniversary, the exhibition looks back at how artists depicted the sea, ports, ships, and sailors from the 17th to the 20th century.
As part of this exhibition, the museum is offering a series of painting workshops open to all skill levels, for ages 15 and up 🎨. Led by a visual artist, these workshops invite participants to explore representations of the sea and sailors through artistic practice and works from the museum’s collections. Each session begins with a period of observation and sketching directly in the museum’s collections, followed by hands-on practice in the workshop using different painting techniques. The booking also includes self-guided access to the temporary exhibition “La Marine et les peintres” as well as to the museum’s permanent collections 🖼️. A great way to extend the experience before or after the workshop and freely discover the works on display! Three themes around maritime painting The workshops are organized around three complementary themes connected to the works in the exhibition: • Landscape — May 30, 2026 at 10:00 🌊 • Silhouettes and portrait — June 6, 2026 at 10:00 👤 • Movement — June 13, 2026 at 10:00 🌪️ Duration: 2 hours per session Materials are provided by the museum. Workshops can be booked by individual session, according to the chosen theme. A series rate is also available for participants who wish to attend all three sessions.
