Inspired women composers, little-known connections, a story to hear all over again!

A one-of-a-kind piano recital! This artistic project, in partnership with the Médiathèque musicale de Paris, is organized by the Conservatoire municipal du 10e arrondissement Hector Berlioz. The famous composer, along with his contemporaries, is being celebrated through the institution’s 2025-2026 cultural season. The originality of this concert, which gives pride of place to the piano, lies in its program combining well-known works with original compositions. Cello and voice will join the notes played by the piano on certain melodies. Marginalized women composers In the 19th century, composing music was a field mainly reserved for men, leaving little room for women composers. Often denied training and little recognized by their contemporaries, their artistic ambitions were limited by the social norms of the time, which largely confined them to the family sphere. A major figure of French Romanticism, Hector BERLIOZ, like many of his contemporaries, moved in a world where women composers were widely marginalized. Yet several of them, whether contemporaries or close to his circle, managed to make their voices heard and achieve a degree of success. This musical program will therefore highlight the connections between Hector BERLIOZ and some of these women, concluding with a tribute by composer and pianist Guillaume PROD’HOMME, who will revisit Berlioz’s world through an original work composed for the occasion: Hector et la fantastique symphonie.
