For twenty years, Andrews has explored the possibilities of massive amplification and dissonant music with the experimental post-punk band MY DISCO, as well as in collaboration with Karl O’Connor (Regis, Sandwell District) and Boris Wilsdorf (Einstürzende Neubauten) as part of the A Southern Code project. His recent work, under the name AICHER, focuses on repurposing incidental elements captured in spatial recordings. Working within the atonal and monochromatic aesthetics that draw him, and drawing from an extensive catalog of recorded material, he transforms these sonic fragments into compositions of meticulously crafted feedback, dizzying percussive swirls, and wavering subharmonic frequencies. The result takes the form of a series of sonic movements—an accumulation of unsettling dissonances that remain suspended.
