Join us on an introspective journey combining art and emotion throughout our "Inner Landscapes" festival at the Fondation des Etats-Unis!
Inspired by the Portuguese concept of saudade — a feeling of melancholy and deep longing for someone, a place, or a cherished moment — the project reflects the shared experience of international residents living far from their original cultures and communities. Led by cellist Lily Stern in collaboration with visual artist Katya Vaz, the performance presents original works composed by Fondation residents, including Dayton Hare, alongside composers from diverse cultural backgrounds. Each composition offers an intimate glimpse into a distinct personal and cultural perspective, inviting the audience to share a collective space for reflection and intercultural encounter. During the concert, visual artworks will be created live from the physical vibrations of the music itself. Nichrome wires attached to the instruments will transform sound vibrations into heat, marking carbon paper and thermal paper in real time, allowing the music to literally draw itself. These visual traces become both evidence and memory of the performance, preserving fleeting sonic moments in material form. In this way, the project explores music as a living archive: a medium through which emotions can be preserved, transformed, and revisited over time. After the performance, the works created during the concert will be exhibited throughout the festival, from June 13 to 25, transforming the space into a true place of memory where visitors can return to relive the experience through its visual traces.
