English multi-instrumentalist, DJ and singer Emma-Jean Thackray pens a love letter to visionary genius Miles Davis, revisiting his repertoire with the exuberance, generosity and inventiveness that define her.
Emma-Jean Thackray discovered the existence and music of Miles Davis as a teenager, completely by chance on an illegal download site. It was a revelation that would illuminate her entire journey: learning the trumpet, shaping her musical taste and developing an approach to music without blinkers or boundaries. Her first two albums – Yellow in 2021 and Weirdo in 2025 – are infused throughout with the exhilarating joy the musician finds in blending (spiritual) jazz, soul, pop, funk and electronic music. Today, Emma-Jean Thackray gives Miles his due with a concert conceived as a love letter to the American trumpeter’s unbridled genius. While she is particularly inspired by his electric period, here she draws from every layer of his extraordinarily rich repertoire to explore 50 shades of groove and attempt the most uninhibited electronic hybrids. Both feet firmly planted in a thrilling modernity.
