The association Histoire et Mémoire de Paris Centre and the Marguerite Audoux library invite you on a surprising tour of our neighborhood, exploring history, architecture, and craftsmanship. This visit to this hidden heritage will be led by Jean François BELHOSTE, art historian
Did you know that in the 19th century, the Marais was the industrial heart of Paris: a dense, working-class neighborhood where thousands of workers converged each day between mechanized workshops and exceptional craftsmanship. Did you know that behind aristocratic facades, a world of workshops, fine artisans, and refined industries was pulsing, shaping the soul and modernity of the neighborhood. On Saturday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m.... come walk the streets of the Marais in a new way, and discover the still-visible traces of this incredible energy. You will encounter traces of Eugène Secrétan, supplier of the copper for the Statue of Liberty, of Gustave Eiffel as a student, and of Louis Blériot before aviation... The association Histoire et Mémoire de Paris Centre aims to promote knowledge of the past of the first four arrondissements of Paris. Its actions seek to pass on the memory of the Shoah and genocides, defend the specific historical heritage of these arrondissements, prevent crimes against humanity, and fight racism and antisemitism, notably by placing particular emphasis on transmitting memory in schools.
