Mysterious and elusive, cats fascinate us as much as they intrigue us. By turns peaceful, wild, mystical, or rebellious, they have captured imaginations across the ages. The exhibition Everyone Is Looking for Their Cat explores their many facets through the eyes of 12 urban artists.
Free yet familiar, independent yet affectionate, hunter and contemplative, the cat has qualities that have always inspired creators. Its long hours of rest make it an accessible and peaceful model, while its supple, graceful body naturally inspires the artist’s hand. In the 19th century, it became a favored companion of artists and a symbol of independence, freedom, and enigmatic beauty. Its presence continues to influence art and the imagination today, reinforced by its role in digital culture, where it is a source of comfort and entertainment for audiences worldwide. Fluctuart invited the artists to offer their own interpretation of this iconic figure. Each artist has made the cat their own, using it to tell a personal story and immerse us in their world. From literature and quantum physics to illustration and kitsch aesthetics, visitors will discover the feline’s many facets and perhaps find their own inner cat.
