This contemporary art exhibition brings together 20 artists and 40 works to offer an open definition of the concept-word bicéphale. Numerous performances are planned!
Following in the lineage of Acéphale by Georges Bataille, the Bicéphale exhibition at Wilde reveals, from June 8 to 15, all the ambiguities of art while refusing to offer a single, univocal reading of it. All the works and performances move toward an absence of anxiety in the face of the “two.” Reinterpreted and translated by the Bicéphale collective and the 20 selected artists, the motif of Janus Bifrons - the Roman god with two faces, symbol of entry and exit, front and back - is reactivated to indicate that no future action will be possible without crossing a threshold. The 40 works on display and the activations presented at Wilde act as forms of resistance against standardization, ambiguity, and imprecision, which are leading us toward ecological and social disaster.
