Jody Sternberg, an Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist, pays a jazzy, eclectic tribute to cabaret icon Eartha Kitt.
Joined by fellow Australian David Lewis (Paris Combo) on trumpet, Cédric Piromalli (piano), Benoit Dunoyer de Segonzac (bass), and Patrick Fileul (drums), Jody Sternberg, “the most Parisian of Australian singers,” pays tribute to the woman Orson Welles described as “the most exciting woman in the world!” The show revisits Kitt’s often provocative body of work—from early jazz standards such as “C’est Si Bon” and “I Want to Be Evil” to later disco hits like “Where Is My Man”—in English and French, featuring original compositions and new arrangements by Sternberg and Lewis. “There is such warmth in the way she welcomes the audience, speaks to people, introduces the songs, and shows affection for her musicians. It is plain to see that Jody Sternberg, a singer and saxophonist whose sincerity is irresistible, is a beautiful, generous soul. But while her presence is deeply moving, the songs—whether original compositions or standards—are just as powerful.
