The film library invites you to La Lucarne for Cinema Hours! A selection of film excerpts will be presented and discussed by the librarians around the theme "Westerns and sword-fighting films".
In collaboration with the médiathèque Marguerite Duras, the bibliothèque du cinéma François Truffaut invites you to discover or rediscover the iconic genres of the western and the sword-fighting film. The event “Les heures du cinéma” highlights a selection of film excerpts discussed by our librarians. By creating a dialogue between cowboys and samurai, you will explore the codes, continuities, and similarities of these two iconic genres. Travel through both the American West and medieval Japan. The richness of these genres and their reinventions over time allows us to present a wide selection of films, from the 1950s to today. Classic Hollywood productions will be presented, along with Italian productions and their spaghetti westerns, as well as Asian productions (chanbara and wu xia pian). Their different variations and renewals will also be discussed, particularly since the arrival of New Hollywood.
