As part of the "Weave, Think, Create!" series, the Bibliothèque publique d'information is organizing a conference on contemporary textile art.
In recent years, contemporary textile art has been increasingly celebrated through numerous exhibitions. Embroidery, weaving, tapestry, screen printing, reuse, and assemblage… This renewed attention is part of a long history of relationships between the visual arts and textiles. Across modern and contemporary art movements, textiles have embodied the dialogue between art and craft, blurred the boundaries between the domestic and the artistic, and served as a feminine and feminist medium. With globalization, new practices from elsewhere have further expanded these horizons and brought new issues to the fore. The talk will follow this thread through diverse and complex works in which textiles illustrate ever-renewed connections between styles, techniques, genders, generations, and cultures. With Eva Barois de Caevel, curator in the contemporary creation and prospective department of the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou
