The poetry and outspoken anger of Catherine Ribeiro and François Béranger still resonate today with undiminished force.
Jann Halexander performs, in his own way and accompanied by his musicians, the songs of Catherine Ribeiro. This pasionaria of the 1970s gave us several gems of French-language song such as "Paix", "Soleil", "L’enfant du soleil couchant" and "Jusqu’à ce que la force de t’aimer me manque". Catherine Ribeiro passed away on August 24 in Martigues. The show built around her repertoire has been performed several times in Paris and Triel-sur-Seine, with the singer’s moral support, over the past four years, as the two artists knew each other personally. As a singer-songwriter, Jann Halexander is known for songs that are both sharp and tender, such as "Le poisson dans mon assiette", "A Table", and "Rester par Habitude", which this Franco-Gabonese poet-singer has performed for more than twenty years on stages in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany. As an interpreter, he has also often sung other texts by female singers such as Anne Sylvestre and Pauline Julien. Pascal Bertonneau, for his part, will revisit François Béranger on June 5 during this exceptional double bill. This libertarian libertine of the 1970s gave us several gems of committed French-language song, such as "Rachel", "Tranche de vie", "L'Alternative" and "Participe présent". François Béranger passed away on October 14, 2003, in Sanilhac-Sagriès. The show built around his repertoire, carried with fervor by Pascal Bertonneau accompanied by Jacques Bouniard, brings back to life the rebellious, tender and humanist spirit of this great figure of French song, whose poetry and outspoken anger still resonate today with undiminished force.
