In the setting of Prison Saint Lazare, a spectacular place steeped in history and stories, Pascaline Herveet creates this new chamber drama. Until 1927, it held women who were then described as the “disgraces of the Capital.” What passionate exchanges might have taken place between these anarchists, cabaret dancers, prostitutes and thieves? While some sold their bodies or collaborated with the magnates of capitalism, others fought exploitation and dreamed of a fairer world. In a bold collage, Pascaline Herveet blends storytelling, songs, poetry and activist speech. With irrepressible humor, “La Maison Noire” builds bridges between different eras and immerses us in the vibrant world of cabaret—a space of struggle and joy. To mark the Prisonnières exhibition, presented by Médiathèque Françoise Sagan from September 15 to December 13, Pascaline Herveet has been invited to the media library for a sung reading of her work-in-progress. The circus production is scheduled for May 2027. Before then, Pascaline Herveet, author and performer with the group Les Elles, will present a raw, minimalist solo version. This sung reading of the text will therefore take a different form from the final performance, particularly because Pascaline Hervéet will play every character.
