Just before the Tournoi de Paris de sumo, held on June 13 and 14 at the Accor Arena, this evening offers a chance to discover many facets of sumo. It will bring together wrestlers from the Naruto and Hanaregoma stables, as well as Japanese and French guests from a variety of backgrounds who are passionate about sumo. They will introduce the discipline, its rules, history, and ranks, illustrating their remarks with videos. They will also reveal the daily life of wrestlers in a stable before discussing the internationalization of sumo. Demonstrations of combat techniques, followed by a discussion with the audience, will close the evening. Speakers Degi Oshoma, wrestler from the Naruto stable Daiki Ichiyamamoto, wrestler from the Hanaregoma stable Masaru Yoshida, former NHK commentator and sumo specialist Jill Coulon, director of the film Tu seras sumo Bruno Aveillan, photographer of the exhibition Sumo, forces sacrées Nicolas Bary, director and initiator of the exhibition project Sumo, forces sacrées Moderator Mathieu Rocher, journalist and vice president of the Association de Presse France-Japon La Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris is dedicating an exceptional focus to sumo on the occasion of the Tournoi de Paris de sumo, in order to honor this emblematic discipline of Japanese culture. Much more than a sport, sumo is a thousand-year-old ritual with spiritual and cultural dimensions deeply rooted in Japanese society. This program invites the public to explore this fascinating world through a photography exhibition, screenings of documentaries and fiction films, and a conference with sumo specialists and enthusiasts.
