Marion Chrétien sings and tells the story of Duke Ellington. Duke Ellington (1899–1974) is one of the most influential composers and bandleaders in jazz history. His exceptional gift for melody gave rise to standards that have become essential, such as Mood Indigo, Sophisticated Lady, and Take the « A » Train. His career took off in the 1920s at the Cotton Club in Harlem, where his orchestra gained national fame thanks to radio broadcasts. Ellington composed thousands of pieces, ranging from jazz songs to more ambitious suites close to symphonic music. His work profoundly shaped jazz writing and continues to influence musicians and composers today, such was his visionary power.
